On Saturday, my beloved Tía Lupe turned 60 years old! [For those of you that don't know, tía means 'aunt' in spanish.] Going to my tía's birthday party was a real treat because the only other time I get the opportunity to see that side of the family is on Christmas! Seriously, the entire family was stunned when they saw me come in. It was like they saw a ghost or something. The party was a surprise, "ladies only" shindig thrown by my cousin Christina [her daughter] and my tía Delia [one of her sisters]. I absolutely adore my father's side of the family. You see, it's basically a traditional mexican-american family. My dad is one of TEN CHILDREN. I cannot even imagine having that many little ones. 5 boys and 5 girls, my dad happens to be the youngest boy and second to youngest sibling. Anywho, the party was fantastic. My tía was so surprised that she started to cry! [We are a very emotional family] We celebrated the evening with tons of dancing to some live mariachi music, ate some delicious catered mexican food, devoured a delectable red velvet cake and basked in the company of family. Seeing how excited my family was to see me, and being able to spend such a special night with them, made me really take a moment to take in the love. As I sat back and took in the night, I realized how truly blessed I am to be apart of a family so filled with love and joy.
I'd like to leave everyone with this tid bit,
"If you have a happy family then you are lucky. Feel grateful that you were blessed with these special ones in your life." -Unknown
